Director Financial Planning & Analysis
Position Overview
Seeking a motivated and detail-oriented FP&A professional. Reporting to the CEO, the FP&A role will play a critical part in driving financial performance, supporting strategic decision-making, and enabling growth in a dynamic, operationally intensive industry. This position involves budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial modeling, and providing actionable insights to leadership on revenue, margins, fuel costs, operational expenses, capital projects, and emergency response initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with department heads to develop annual budgets, rolling forecasts, and long-range financial plans
- Prepare monthly/quarterly financial reporting packages, including variance analysis, key performance indicators (KPIs), and management dashboards
- Build and maintain financial models to support pricing strategies, margin analysis, capital expenditure evaluations, and scenario planning
- Analyze business trends, cost drivers, and profitability by product line, customer segment, and geography
- Support month-end close process with accruals, journal entries, and flux analysis related to inventory, cost of goods sold (COGS), and operating expenses
- Assist in preparation of board/management presentations, investor updates (if applicable), and ad-hoc strategic analyses
- Identify opportunities for margin improvement, cost optimization, and operational efficiency in a high-volume, logistics-heavy environment
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and support audit processes
- Assist in analyzing M&A opportunities and development of structured financial planning opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business Administration, or related field (MBA or advanced degree preferred)
- 3-7+ years of progressive FP&A, corporate finance, or financial analysis experience (experience in distribution, energy/oil & gas, logistics, construction services, or commodity-related industries strongly preferred)
- Strong financial modeling skills in Excel (advanced functions, pivot tables, scenario analysis); experience with BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) or ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, SAP, or similar) a plus
- Solid understanding of GAAP and financial statement analysis (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Proven ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders
- High level of integrity, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with variable demand
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership
- Experience with commodity pricing, inventory management, or variable cost structures is highly desirable
Preferred Skills & Attributes
- Knowledge of fuel/lubricant markets, hedging strategies, or energy sector dynamics

- Preferred investment banking or private equity experience
